Camping is a great family activity even if you aren’t the outdoors survivalist kind of person. It has plenty of advantages over other vacation choices; having two kids hasn’t held us back from our traveling, as there are plenty of places we can camp beyond the Sydney area.
When we go camping I am off the grid; away from work emails, random phone calls, and our kids’ video games. I get a chance to explore nature again instead of sitting at home and watching television.
By choosing to hire camping supplies I can try new things every time I go! If we want to sleep under the starts we don’t rent a tent. If the family wants to try canoeing we rent canoes. If we want to try backpacking the entire time, we rent high quality backpacks. Everyone is part of planning the trip when the kids pick their own camping gear. Just about all the camp gear you family needs is available in small size and different themes for kids. When we hire the best camping supplies, we don’t have to “rough it” any worse than we want to.
Another enjoyable part of camping is that our St. Bernard Beethoven can usually come along with us! Most campgrounds and hiking places allow pets! Just be sure to check if they have to stay on a leash or not.
Camping is a great opportunity for everyone to exercise. We like to hike through nature and capture exciting views. Be sure your camping gear includes backpacks for enough food, water and first-aid gear. We can go on a different hike every day, always returning to “base camp” afterwards, and never see the same things twice.
If hiking isn’t your thing, the kids can run around and play games in the campground’s open lawn. Swimming is fun for everyone and surfboard can always be found for hire, at the beach or at your camping gear rental store. If you still want to explore the trail, include bikes with you family camping gear.
I always enjoy trying new cooking methods when camping too. Whether renting camping cookware to use on a fire or a trailer with a stove, you have new opportunities. Our kids enjoy hotdogs on sticks, but I love using a cast iron Dutch oven. Everyone love marshmallows over the open fire.
You can make camping an educational experience too. Learning about new plants and wildlife is fun, or find camping gear to discover the dark like bright lanterns or head lamps. All kinds of different animals come out at night. Just be sure to stay safe.
Finally, camping is cheaper. Any campground is going to be much less expensive than a hotel. Parks where you can swim, hike, and explore are much less than any amusement park or tourist area, if not free. Once you have your camping gear rented and you food for the week, the rest of you vacation is going to be practically free.
